The movie has killer visuals and designs, and there are a lot of amazing ideas,
but I was a little bit disappointed by the story. It felt too short for all the ideas they had.
I love the new Kaijus, especially Raijin, but they only appear by the end of the movie, which is a shame.
Come on guys, that tremendous kaiju deserved more time on screen!
Also, one of the new jaegers had more of a Transformer feel, with the shapeshifting and the dubstep sounds. Not a bad thing per se, but Transformers is Transformers and Pacific Rim is Pacific Rim.
Anyways, I'm still a fan of both IPs, and Raijin is awesome!
Here is my fanart of Pacific Rim Uprising :

As this year comes to an end, it's time for a little update.
My comic book 999 Doors is almost done. Here is my favorite panel from the latest pages (can't show too much without spoiling at this point) :
From January on, I'll be looking for a publisher.
I've been wanting to release an artbook for years, and in 2018, I'll have enough material to release a Zodiac Girls artbook.
You probably have seen them already, but here are my favorite pieces so far :
- Listening to: Scandroid - Afterglow
My personal comic book :
I've completed 105 pages out of 125. When this will be done, it will feel like the end of an era of my life! It's been in the making for 6 years!
My chinese horoscope illustration series :
It's still going. I'm still very excited about this series of warrior pinup girls. 5 more signs to go and maybe an extra, we'll see.
Ozalee project :
Can't reveal anything about that yet, but if you're interested please watch my scraps, I post some sketches and speedpaintings here.
I'll be back soon with a new horoscope artwork!
- Listening to: Forget Tomorrow - Be Yourself
I hope everybody's alright!
Here is a short update on what's going on here.
What comes next :
- My horoscope series is resurrected! A new piece is coming! I'd love to collect those in an artbook someday.
- Ozalee new design - I went through different versions and styles over the years and now it's time for an update
- Tina Xuan new design - Tina is my oldest OC yet I didn't share anything about her for... like... maybe 7 years? Hell! Time to fix that!
- New NSFW artwork as Arem Befanti.
- I'll do a first print test of my graphic novel in March.
- Listening to: Killer Instinct 3 OST - The Dragon Spirit (Kim Wu)
I'm currently kinda quiet, as I focus on finishing my comic book.
About what will happen here in 2017, honestly I have no plans.
It depends on the material I can get finished in my spare time...

This was my first Inktober and I think it's a nice challenge!
So I decided to fill a 20 pages sketchbook with drawings of harpies!
Some things I learnt in the process of making the sketchbook :
1. Inking makes me think about the details. Like how are the Harpies' feathers working? Where are they attached on their body?
2. Doing one finished personal drawing a day makes me unleash new ideas, as I tried a new pose/angle every day.
3. A pose has a concept behind it. A harpy sitting on a skull is not an idea.
A harpy stitting on a pile of skulls like she was a mermaid sitting on a rock is an idea.
I feel like I'm just beginning to learn. But I'm glad I completed this sketchbook!
I feel less rusty now!
- Listening to: Scandroid - Destination Unknown
I asked, you decided!
Here are the result :
1st place : Namaka and Vesta (8 votes each)
3rd place :
Bellona and Pepona (3 votes each)
As Namaka had the first place for the longest time period, I'll pick her for the bust shot.
Namaka and Vesta will be in, as well as Bellona or Pepona. I haven't decided yet.
Thank you and I'll be back soon with the final Inktober drawings!
- Listening to: Scandroid - Destination Unknown
- A bust shot of your favorite Harpy
- A cover art with your 3 favorite Harpies.
Now that I have 9 Harpy OCs, there's a lot of choice!
Vote for your favorite harpy here!
Just letting you know what's on my plate for the upcoming months.
graphic novel :
I'm currently completing two big professional commissions, meaning I will soon be able to work on my graphic novel at a better pace, so there's still a chance I manage to complete it this year!
Pages I've done this year (some are still in progress) :
I'll complete my sketchbook, so when it's done there will be 20 color sketches.
chinese horoscope :
This is the bad news : the chinese horoscope is in hiatus. The first piece was way too much time consuming and I need to complete my graphic novel.
I'll be back at it in 2017.
Arem Befanti :
Now this is the good news : After Inktober, I'll resurrect Arem Befanti with some NSFW pieces!
- Listening to: Glassjaw - Natural Born Farmer
I know websites don't really matter nowadays, most people would rather use social network instead.
That being said, I still think websites can give a better user experience than most social networks when it comes to artwork.
I used to spend several weeks per year to think about my website and its design. It used to be a complex thing. I spent my time using html and css and I wasn't that happy with the outcome.
This time, I used a responsive template that was good enough so I did the new website within two days.
Here is the link : fabienmater.com.
And here is what it looks like :
It's simple and responsive and allows you to see my artwork in full screen. That's all I wanted.
Also the blog section is back, soon there will be tutorials and other stuff there!

I just wanted to share my complete horoscope series with you!
It's only 12 pieces, but I'm glad I managed to complete it on my spare time.
I'm glad I can update my gallery on a regular basis and have fun with personal illustration projects like this one!
For the next 6 months I'm going to work on a new series of artwork, can't wait to show new stuff to you guys!
A few weeks ago, I discovered the art of Eskar , and it just amazed me! It's very romantic, unique and beautiful :
Now what if I tell you this :
These pieces of art are actually panels from an erotic comic book!
I bought this comic today, and I love it already!
I can't explain that with words but there's something about it that makes it different from everything I know.
Maybe the key element is tenderness.
More info about the comic here :
Here comes the may update. I'm pleased to say my horoscope series is almost done! I'm currently thinking about the next series...
Besides, here is a preview of the comic pages I've done this year thus far (damn! Only 2 pages this month!) :
I had a hard time with the faces, especially because the style is slightly different from the faces I paint in my horoscope series!
Listening to: POLYPHIA - Euphoria
I've been away from home last week and the WIFI was terrible so basically I wasn't able to reply to anyone nor to post anything new!
That said, every evening I took a few minutes to do an inked sketch. Some are random designs, some are from a project I won't tell much about.
Here is the result :
Tomorrow, I'll be back with a new artwork from my horoscope series, stay tuned!
- Listening to: DEFTONES - Gore
I forgot the march update! So there will be two in April!
First, here is a shot of the horoscope series!
Then, here are early steps for my two next pieces :
Finally, this is a sneak peek of the latest pages from graphic novel:
I hope everyone is doing well!
- Listening to: Circle of Dust - Parasite
- Reading: Uh... No time for reading!
Here are some news about my current projects.
999 Doors (graphic novel)
I'm about to complete the big action sequence of the book.
There's still a lot of pages to do, but I'm confident with my new working process.
Horoscope series (artwork)
My third piece "Aries" is in progress. I will post it in a few days.
Previous pieces :

I'm still working on my first comic book! It's a 120 full color pages graphic novel and there's only one guy working on it : me. That's why it's a long process. But now I can say I'm closer to the end than the beginning, and that's some great news!
So far it's only in french. But since it's quite different from regular french comic books, I'm starting to think maybe I should translate it in english and submit it to foreign publishers...
Anyways, I've set the deadline for the end of the year. I'm a bit late, but I'll do my best!

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
7 years already!
What does your username mean?
It's my real name, I never found a decent nickname.
Describe yourself in three words.
Vampire Doing Art. (vampire because my skin is pale and I feel better at night and I hate garlic.)
Are you left or right handed?
What is your favourite type of art to create?
Full color pieces influenced by manga and painting, focusing on OCs and landscapes. But I enjoy even more creating comics.
If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Black and white manga pages. Making full color comics takes like forever but I'm better at painting than inking.
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
I like a lot of things, even if I guess there are mainly female characters and landscapes in my favourites.
If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I'd love to meet some people I know for a very long time, but living in different countries doesn't help.
How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Back in my early deviantART years, I had some health troubles and I was happy to have many people helping me to get through this.
I'm so thankful for that.
- What are your preferred tools to create art?
Wacom intuos 4 A5 + Photoshop CS6. Lately I do more and more sketches on paper too.
- What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
I love wandering through the streets of my town to get inspired. But to create artwork, I feel better at home.
- What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
The day I created my account. I got a lot of great feedback and met some nice people I'm still friend with!
